Scarlett Johansson born into a poor family with three siblings (Vanessa, Adrian and twin brother Hunter) in New York City started acting early in her childhood. Mother Melanie started taking Scarlett to auditions which paid off as she made her debut in the 1994 film North starring Bruce Willis and Elijah Wood. North however, flopped at the box office.

Several films later, Scarlett recieved widespread recognition for her work in The Horse Whisperer and Ghost World.

In 2003, Scarlett was asked to play Charlotte in the film comedy Lost In Translation alongside Bill Murray, and she won the “Upstream Prize” for Best Actress at the Venice Film Festival. And later in the same year, Scarlett was nominated for two best actress awards at the Golden Globes, one for drama “Girl with a Pearl Earring” and one for comedy “Lost in Translation”. She was also nominated for best actress for both films at the BAFTAs, and won best actress for Lost in Translation.

In 2004, Scarlett starred in the film A Love Song for Bobby Long which earned her a third Golden Globe Award nomination. A scene from Bobby Long, which wasn’t included in the theatrical cut, of Scarlett´s character being masturbated and having an orgasm, has become a popular download on the Internet.

Scarlett was initally involved with the film Mission: Impossible III, but was not officially cast. Rumours spread that Scarlett and the MI star Tom Cruise had fallen out at the beginning of production. Even though this was strongly denied, Scarlett was replaced by Keri Russell.

Scarletts careeer has gone from strength to strength regardless of those MI rumours as she starred alongside Ewan Mcgregor in The Island and later in the same year the Woody Allen-directed drama Match. Scarlett received her fourth Golden Globe nomination as Best Supporting Actress for the role.
