Man killed by Ving Rhames dogs

Ving RhamesYesterday, 3rd August 2007, a caretaker working and living at one of Hollywood actor Ving Rhame’s properties was found dead after being mauled by the actors dogs.

The victim who worked for the actor for about two years was among those responsible for caring for the dogs died at the scene of the attack, which was reported about by an anonymous caller at 7:15 a.m. in the 12900 block of San Vicente Boulevard, said Los Angeles Police officer Sandra Gonzalez.

The man who has not been named was 40 years old.

An English bulldog and three bull mastiffs have been seized by animal services.

Los Angeles Police Lt. Ray Lombardo said:

“The victim appears to have suffered a number of injuries as a result of the dog mauling. There were dogs loose on the property. Those dogs have been captured by animal regulation. We have four dogs that have been taken into custody for quarantine pending further investigation.”

“Both those dogs are mastiffs; they’re rather large,” Ray Lombardo added.

“Normally we understand they are pretty friendly dogs. But, you know, there are occasions where dogs will turn on their owners or their caretakers, and this looks like a tragic accident.”

Captain Ed Winter has scheduled an autopsy for Monday and said:

“It’s premature to say how he died. We don’t know if he was attacked by the dogs and suffered a heart attack.”

Star of Mission: Impossible II Ving Rhames was on location in Bulgaria shooting an upcoming action film, ‘The Tournament’ when the incident happened.

Lalate.com reported that in an article from 1999 Los Angeles Times, Ving Rhames was quoted saying that he owns “slave dog”. Ving said:

“The dog was actually bred to guard slaves. It was the only dog they found that had the temperament to guard a slave. It could be around you every day, but if you tried to run away, it would deal with you like it never saw you before.”
