Eminem sues Apple for downloads

Eminem, Marshall Mathers III8 mile star and American rapper Eminem has filed a multi-million dollar lawsuit against the computer giants Apple Inc. for allegedly violating copyright laws by allowing unauthorised downloads of Eminem’s music on the iTunes website.

Eight Mile Style LLC and Martin Affiliated LLC is looking for more than $75,000 for copyright infringement, unfair competition and a violation of the Michigan consumer protection act, plus damages of up to $150,000 for every single time one of his songs are downloaded.

The suit involves 70 - 80 songs which include tracks from “The Eminem Show.” Apple has been asked to stop selling Eminem’s tracks but has so far refused the suit claims.

Eminems legal rep Norman Ankers says that record companies need permission from copyright holders before downloads can be authorised.

“This is a significant issue in the music industry. This occurs with many artists and many record labels.”

Its not the first time Eminem, real name Marshall Mathers III has sued Apple.  In 2004 Eminem sued the computer company for using Eminem’s “Lose Yourself” in commercial TV ads for its iTunes music store. The case was settled out of court and the advert was never released.

In more Eminem news, the rumours that the rapper was releasing a new album called King Mathers has been quashed by the rappers publicist Dennis Dennehy.

A website called kingmathers.com led fans to believe that the rapper was working on his fifth album, but Dennis Dennehy insists that the site is bogus and the rumours are false. Dennis also said:

“There is no Eminem album on any release schedule.”

So sorry fans, no album coming soon from Eminem.
