Fragrance Designer wins Shiloh perfume battle

Symie SalimpourSymine Salimpour a fragrance designer, came up trumps in the five-month legal battle with one of Hollywood’s most famous mothers and child on the planet, Angelina Jolie and Shiloh Nouvel Jolie-Pitt.

Symie Salimpour won the legal right to call her new perfume Shiloh. She got the green light on 15th June 2007, when Angelina Jolie and Shiloh, 13 months, dropped their legal challenge to Symie Salimpour’s application to trademark the name Shiloh.

The fragrance designer is arranging for the very first shipment of the perfume Shiloh to the United States. Symie says she started the development of the fragrance two years ago, long before Shiloh Nouvel Jolie-Pitt was born on 27th May 2006. But the designer’s application to the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office did not occur until the 19th June 2006.

Angelina Jolie didn’t believe the designer and started legal proceedings. However Symie Salimpour stuck to her argument and said that the naming was strictly a coincidence.

“I was so scared, I mean, c’mon, who wouldn’t be? In Hebrew, Shiloh means ‘his gift.’ And I will use the perfume to give something back to the children of Israel and the Middle East.”

When the perfume Shiloh hits the market later this year, 5 percent of the profits will go to the Israeli-based nonprofit organization Beit Issie Shapiro, which provides medical and educational services to disabled children.

The fragrance designer added that it was all a huge misunderstanding and that she bears no grudges to Angelina:

“It was just a huge misunderstanding. And besides having a baby named Shiloh - because this perfume, it is my baby - we can say we have two other things in common: We believe in human rights, and we love Brad Pitt!”
