Do Celebs make rehab look glamourous?

The topic across major sites over the last few days seem to revolve around celebrities and rehab. Either for alcohol or for illegal drugs.  Is it a problem? Do stars make rehab look glamourous? Its not like they hide the fact they are going in there, instead they announce it to the world. Its no longer a dirty little secret. But is any of that good?

I think yes. But we will cover that nearer the end. First lets see  what others have to say about the whole ordeal of celebrities that go into rehab.

CBSnews.com, has an article about clebrities and rehab. Where some critics are saying that because its no longer a dirty little secret. Ordinary people are going to rehab to sort their problems out. In other words they are facing their problems head on by approaching help. How is that a bad thing?

Quote from CBSnews.com

Young Hollywood just loves to party but the seduction of alcohol and drugs has led many to rehab facilities like Wonderland, co-founded by Howard Samuels. It was reportedly where Lindsay Lohan went to get sober the first time.

“I have kids lining up at the door that are 19, 20, 21, that are on cocaine on a daily basis. They’re doing ecstasy. They’re smoking pot 24 hours a day,” Samuels said.

ITV.com, has an article about Pearl Lowe, who was an IT girl in the 90’s. She just happened to release a book telling the world about her cocaine and heroin addiction. Giving a side of the story where its not all glamour and glitz.

Quote from ITV.com:

The 38-year-old mother-of-four has been clean for two-and-a-half years but she is concerned by the way the current group of celebrities deal with their personal problems.

Pearl said: “When you read about Lindsay Lohan, Paris Hilton or Britney Spears, they seem to celebrate it.

“I guess one of the great things about my book is that it shows it isn’t glamorous.”‘

Regarding the CBS quote. I don’t think its just young Hollywood that likes to party. Its almost anybody with a social life now a days.  But rehab offers them a solution to their weaknesses.  As for the other kids lining up at the door. If they are there because they thought “Britney and Lindsay can face their problems. Why can’t i?” Isn’t that a good thing?  It means more peple are facing their problems which leads to a cleaner nation.True?

And ITV.com? Well pretty  much the same.  People that can look upto their role models(If we can call them that) and see that a difference can be made in rehab. These things can  really benefit the community of the addicts and the addicts them selves. Giving many a second chance at life.

I think we should criticize people when they don’t seek help for their problems. Wouldn’t that make more sense?

Instead of “They went to rehab so they are bad people”.

Shouldn’t it be

“They had a problem and faced it head on to deal with it. Good luck to them”

We criticize when they are on drugs. Now we criticize because they want to get help?

For some seeing their role model enter rehab has helped them enough to seek their own help.
